These are defined for the photographers as:

• a commitment to help - through their work - the cause and dignity of those people photographed,

• respect for them and those close to them,

• a collaborative approach with individuals and organizations who are actively working on these issues,

• a genuine desire to understand the issue(s) being addressed,

• a desire to address the issue in the most in depth and comprehensive manner possible,

• a rigourous approach to their work and the use of their photographs.
